School textbooks debate highlights clear agenda of partisan group

This morning I took part in the Westminster Hall debate on the EU review into Palestinian children’s school books and accusations that these contain content designed to spark violence and hatred.

While there are problems and concerns about some of the content of Palestinian textbooks, the independent Eckert report says that it is isolated and not nearly as widespread as some partisan Israeli lobby groups would have us believe.

There are clear signs of improvement and the textbooks have been found to meet UNESCO standards.

Palestinian children live with violence and discrimination every day of their lives and I wish that the Tories were as vociferous in condemning the destruction of Palestinian children’s schools as they are on the content of their school books.
