Support and advice event held for island’s LGBT+ community ahead of PRIDE event

It was great to be back on the Isle of Bute again and to take part in the PRIDE Bute relaunch out of lockdown drop-in event at The Bank of Ideas in Rothesay on Saturday afternoon.

The event was designed to offer help and advice to those who may be struggling with their sexuality and feel isolated, particularly due to the pandemic. During the afternoon experts from Waverley Care provided information on sexual health while representatives from Equality Network Scotland & LEAP Sports Scotland were able to discuss diversity, equality, rights and political issues as well as provide information on inclusive activities and sports.

It was good to catch up with so many people including Alan Izat from Bute LGBT+ Community Group and Pride organisation, as well as Oceana Maund from Equality Network and Tommy and Bill from Leap Sports. Well done also to raffle ticket hostess Catherine Gillies for all her hard work and to the whole team for managing to raise £152 which will be used to support the third annual Bute PRIDE event which this year will, hopefully, take place in Guilford Square on September 4.

It was great to see so many fantastic raffle prizes including a voucher from Bute Paddle Boards and I hope the person who wins the bottle of House of Commons whisky enjoys it when the raffle is drawn next Saturday!
